Morning Immersion Programs
5-DAY IMMERSION PROGRAMS - M-T-W-TH-F
POUSSINS - For children 2+ to 3 years old
5-DAY MORNING IMMERSION PROGRAM, 9 am - 11 am
Most Poussins are not new to French For Fun since they have attended the Moms N Tots playgroup with maman and the Toddler Circle. French may not be foreign to them, yet the concept of "school" is. Children new to French are certainly welcome to join at this level and will soon catch up to the "veterans" of the group. Children should be comfortable being away from parents or caregivers for a couple of hours.
Madame Catherine will work her magic with the children and involve them mentally and physically so they can become better listeners and start acquiring a second language in a natural way. A wide range of manipulatives will be used to develop dexterity and will lead to pre-writing exercises and fun art projects. The goal of the class is to learn to play together, to share, sing, dance, and have fun while acquiring a lot of vocabulary and becoming familiar and comfortable with a "school" routine à la French For Fun.
PAPILLONS - For children 4 to 5 years old
5-DAY MORNING IMMERSION PROGRAM, 9 am - 12 pm

Most of these children have been in the program for 2 years or more.
Our main objective is to capitalize on their already extensive vocabulary and have them function in French naturally, using complete sentences and idiomatic expressions. Focus will be put on role playing, active storytelling, visual arts, dance and music. These disciplines are not just fun but they also help the children concentrate and become physically engaged, which boosts their confidence.
In addition, writing, pre-reading and math concepts will be integrated in the curriculum, although mainly implemented through Maria Montessori's precepts and graphic arts activities.
At French for Fun, academics as well as visual and performing arts are at the core of each lesson.
Our other goal will be to consolidate the childrens' knowledge and experience of French culture, so that the children will live and learn at French for Fun as if they were immersed in a French "maternelle" in France.
Afternoon Immersion Programs
4-DAY IMMERSION PROGRAMS - M T W TH
Our pride and joy! Our afternoon programs comply with the standards for foreign language learning: preparing for the 21st century published by ACTFL, the American Council of the Teaching of Languages. Matter of fact, many years before the ACTFL' publication in 1996, French For Fun was implementing in its program the FIVE C's, Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons and Communities.
For more details please visit ACTFL's website and of course our Classrooms Notes.
Our afternoon immersion students attend American schools and come to French For Fun 4 days a week to continue their French education. The majority of them grew up with us and started when they were 2 or 3 years old in morning immersion.
TOURNESOLS - For children 5 years old
4-DAY AFTERNOON IMMERSION PROGRAM
M T W TH, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
These children are attending American Kindergarten and our Grande Maternelle at French For Fun. Most have been in our programs for years and function very well in French. This year our color is “ jaune” (yellow) and our “peintre” Vincent Van Gogh. We will begin our European Tour in Holland and slowly move to Provence later in the fall. We will cross “le tunnel du Mont-Blanc” and celebrate Noël in the Alps. For Mardi Gras, we will join in the masquerade of “le carnaval de Venise” with Pierrot et Arlequin. Then in the spring, like “les hirondelles” we will return from Africa and settle back in a French village. This incredible journey will be conducted entirely in French, incorporating visual arts and performing arts right along academic disciplines, such as geography and history. We will begin to pay more attention to sentence structure introducing Maria Montessori Grammar symbols and work on pre reading assignments, as well as logic and math concepts.

All disciplines being equally important are always integrated in all our units throughout the year. This very rich curriculum keeps all children very interested, motivated and provides us with lots of vocabulary and many stories to tell.
New students with French experience are welcomed to join in the fun.
Afternoon Immersion III
Fairy tales, fables and contemporary short stories and musicals...
These beginner readers in French will be delighted to find out that the many stories they have enjoyed over the years, were actually written by Charles Perrault. Being familiar with most of the stories will be comforting, yet the challenge will be to acquire a lot more fluency in reading, more vocabulary and a better understanding of basic French grammar rules. We will also travel the world and discover how children when loosing their teeth are rewarded and by whom? All French holidays as well as la semaine du goût will be celebrated as part of the program and we will end the year with Tourloublanc, a delightful French musical play for children.
Afternoon Immersion IV
Le Tour de France and the discovery of a few regions...
Now that these children function well in French and are beginning to express themselves, it is time to travel to France. Using Le Tour de France, the famous bicycle race, students will team up and plan their own course. They will need to find out what is important to see or do or eat at each stop. They will make a map of their Tour de France, find sponsors for their teams and design their jersey. Vocabulary tests, grammar quizzes will be graded using a point system to determine who will wear le maillot jaune, the famous yellow jersey worn by the winner after each étape. After the race, all teams will plan a vacation to Provence.
Reading and basic grammar will of course be intergraded in all units.
Afternoon Immersion VI
These continuing middle school students have all been to France and have studied about many of its beautiful regions in class at FFF these past years. Five girls in the class were in Provence in late June with French for Fun so it seems that we must share our adventures and study more in depth what Provence is famous for.
We will travel back in time and learn that the Romans really did live in this area. We will welcome fall by studying Cezanne's still life pictures, stroll the streets of Aix and admire the mountain of Sainte Victoire. We will visit Arles through Van Gogh's paintings and celebrate Noël making a Crèche avec Santons.
We will read le Petit Nicolas in the second trimester and spend the spring in Normandie. Reading, basic grammar and spelling will be integrated in all units.
NOTE: No PM V this year
