French For Fun Programs

Registration for Fall 2010 Begins in March!

Morning Programs

Moms n' Tots

2 days T-Th (walkers)
From 10:15 am to 10:45 am
Begins September 15th, 2009

Toddler Circle

2 days M-W (2 to 2.5 y.o.)
From 10:15 am to 10:45 am
Begins September 14, 2009

Listening being the most important language skill at this early stage of language development, our classes are small and staffed by native speakers.

Twice a week for 30 minutes each time, we welcome families and their young children. We sing, we dance, we tell stories, we play, and we hug and smile. We learn to listen, share and follow directions. These groups are lead by native speakers and are the child's introduction to the immersion experience at French For Fun.

Les Petits Chats

5 days: M-T-W-Th-F
From 9:00 am to 11:00 am

The children will be turning three and are now used to hearing the French language. Separation from adults is no longer an issue and the children are really enjoying "doing," that is singing, dancing, painting, and more in a total immersion setting. Totally unconscious of the fact they are learning another language, they quickly assimilate and imitate teachers and older students and quickly start to function in French.

New students are welcome provided they are mature enough to be away from home and their parents/caregivers for a couple of hours.

We at French For Fun are deeply affected by the teachings of Maria Montessori and we use her principles as a guiding light in our morning immersion program.

Our creative teachers design manipulative related to our current themes which are designed to foster the power of concentration in our children. However, since our raison d'etre is to introduce a new language, the instructors gently move behind each child to softly speak about the task, or the objects the child id faced with. This quiet time is very special to both child and teacher. Other students can join in quietly and communicate in French with peers.

Practical life activities are designed to be practical and useful but also to help develop the child's fine motor skills. At French for Fun, our favorite practical life activities are of course cooking lessons which are implemented within each unit. These lessons allow us to introduce a lot of vocabulary and extend the children' cognitive development. Be sure to see in special events pictures of our culinary talents which were once again put to the test for La Semaine du Goût, Taste Week.

Les Coccinelles

5 days M-T-W-Th-F
From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

These boys and girls will be turning four this coming school year. All of them have been exposed to French and most of them have been in our program. Children will learn to recognize numbers from 1 to 12. They will be doing graphisme or pre-writing exercises to prepare them for writing. They will be starting to make complete sentences in French and building a solid vocabulary. The school year will be structured along the four seasons and explore the cultural activities in France associated with the different times of year. Basic phonetics and pre-reading exercises involving letters will be introduced. Montessori manipulations will be used to develop dexterity and concepts can be math or language based.

Les Coquelicots

5 days M-T-W-Th-F
From 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

This program is the equivalent of the pre-K curriculum of an academic private school. Students function in French, can make complete sentences and their basic vocabulary is actually quite impressive. Writing, pre-reading, and math concepts will be an integral part of the yearly program along with cultural units, holiday celebrations, and more.

Afternoon Programs

Les Tournesols (Kindergarten/Grande Maternelle)

4 days M-T-W-Th
From 1:15 pm to 3:15 pm

These students are in kindergarten. We refine all concepts and basic language units (weather, calendar, food). We introduce new grammatical concepts such as masculine and feminine, singular and plural, agreement of adjectives (petit or petite), and basic conjugations. We also use the metric system and perform computations in French up to 100. The arts and children's literature are well represented in this class with fun, hands-on projects, story telling, skits, and, of course, music!

AFTERNOON TOTAL IMMERSION PROGRAMS

All classes conducted entirely in French.

Our pride and joy! All these students attend American schools and come to French For Fun 4 days a week to continue their French education. Almost all of them grew up with us and started when they were 2 or 3 years old in morning immersion.
