Tots at Play (18 months to 29 months)

2-DAY PROGRAM, Monday & Wednesday
11:15 am - 12 pm
Starts Monday September 12th

These are introductory programs for new families at FFF with parents/caregiver participation, and they are designed for families who, at this point, envision their children continuing in our immersion programs in the future.

Listening being the most important language skill at this early stage of language development, our classes are small and staffed by native speakers.

During our 45 min. sessions, we welcome families and their young children. We sing, we dance, we tell stories, we play, and we hug and smile. We learn to listen, share and follow directions. These play groups are the child's introduction to the immersion experience at French For Fun.

Space is limited, therefore we encourage you to sign up early. First come, first served basis.

Early Childhood Education Immersion Programs
5-DAY or 3-DAY IMMERSION PROGRAMS

PETITE SECTION - For children 2.5 to 3.5 years old
5-DAY or 3-DAY IMMERSION PROGRAM, 9 am - 11 am

Most of these students are not new to French For Fun since they have attended the Tots at Play program with a parent/caregiver or our former morning immersion program on their own (Poussins). Children new to French are certainly welcome to join at this level and will soon catch up to the "veterans" of the group. Children should be comfortable being away from parents or caregivers for a couple of hours.

More information about the curriculum will come soon.

MOYENNE SECTION - For children 4 to 5 years old
5-DAY MORNING IMMERSION PROGRAM, 9 am - 12 pm

Most of these children have been in the program for 2 years or more, and our objective is to capitalize on their already extensive vocabulary and have them function naturally in French. Many of these young students are already conversing well in French!

Another one of our objectives is to provide a solid Pre-K experience helping the children acquire kindergarten readiness skills. Academics, like writing, pre-reading and math concepts will be integrated into a curriculum that is rich in visual and fine arts, drama, storytelling, dance and music. We use the Arts as a vehicle to make abstract concepts — like letters and numbers — concrete and accessible to this age child.

Finally, we strive to consolidate the children's knowledge and experience of French Culture so that they will live and learn at French For Fun as is they were immersed in a French maternelle in France.

Afternoon Immersion Programs

Our pride and joy! Our afternoon programs comply with the standards for foreign language learning: preparing for the 21st century published by ACTFL, the American Council of the Teaching of Languages. Matter of fact, many years before the ACTFL' publication in 1996, French For Fun was implementing in its program the FIVE C's, Communication, Culture, Connections, Comparisons and Communities.

For more details please visit ACTFL's website and of course our Classrooms Notes.

Our afternoon immersion students attend American schools and come to French For Fun 2 to 4 days a week to continue their French education. The majority of them grew up with us and started when they were 2 or 3 years old in preschool immersion.

New students with previous French experience are welcome.

PM Immersion I
with Mme Catherine

For children K thru 1st Grade
3-Day Afternoon Immersion Program
T and TH - from 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm
F - from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

This year our K and 1st graders will do more basic grammar, phonetics and reading, and of course enrich their vocabulary. Visual Arts is always an important component of the learning at FFF. This fall, our painter will be Cézanne. The children will also learn how to describe their physical features and begin one of the favorite units at FFF: "Quand on est grand, on perd ses dents" (losing baby teeth). Keep those old teeth and be prepared to hear some pretty amazing stories as the children discover the different rituals families perform for this event in different parts of the world....

NOTE: No PM II or III this year.

PM Immersion IV
with Mme Catherine

4-Day Afternoon Immersion Program
M, T, W, Th -
from 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm

Our 2nd-3rd graders are now reading in French, therefore this year they will spend more time on spelling and proper grammar while reinforcing speaking and writing skills. Students will discover Switzerland this fall and learn to tell time in French. This unit allows the children to share their individual schedule and routine which is fun for them and of course the topic is very rich in every day language, including verbs of actions, reflexive verbs, etc... In art students will "meet" two famous Swiss artists, Paul Klee and a sculptor Jean Tinguely. Their work is creative and inspiring to children. In literature students will read two short stories, Heidi and Guillaume Tell.

PM Immersion V
with M. Baimba

4-Day Afternoon Immersion Program
M, T, W, Th - from 3:45 pm - 4:30 pm

NOTE: No PM VI this year

PM Immersion VII
with Mme Catherine

2-Day Afternoon Immersion Program
M and W - from 3:45 pm - 5:15 pm

Our Middle-schoolers are going "home" this year...to Paris that is...for a year-long visit to the City of Lights. Students will learn how the city got its name, study architecture terms while building Notre Dame and of course acting out some scenes from Les Misérables. They will "attend" l'Exposition Universelle, when Monsieur Eiffel enveiled his very controversial tower. In art, they will study the works of Chagall who loved the Eiffel tower and illustrated it in so many of his paintings, and finally the class will read a biography of Coco Chanel, just in time for the new Haute Couture Collections!
